What is e-book publishing?
E-book publishing is the publication of books in a downloadable form on your personal computer. The e-book may be found in any of several popular formats such as Adobe Reader PDF, downloaded free from the net as is, Microsoft Reader, or in HTML format. All e-published books are presented in the same manner as print books, ie they have cover art, blurbs and ISBNs.

Why buy an e-book?
E-books are much easier to catalog as they are placed in a folder on your computer. You have a choice of how you read them, and they may be printed out as hard copy on your own printer. You are also able to catalog them on a CD and carry them with you on holidays, seminars and the like. No more looking for shelf space!

Advantage of an e-book
E-books are generally cheaper than print books because of lower printing costs and seldom go out of production. Plus, you have the advantage of enlarging the print size to suit your personal needs. There is also the ability to have immediate access to what you have seen, depending on the format you choose, no waiting for delivery.

What is an e-book reader?
These are fairly new devices. They are small (about the size of a paperback book), light, battery operated, rechargable and they have enough memory to hold about 12 books at a time (ideal if you travel a lot or are going on holiday.) You can load the reader with any new e-book you purchase, or with newspapers, journals, or the paperwork you have to take home from the office. E-books readers' screens are backlit so you can read anywhere (in bed, on planes, on the train or bus) and you can choose the font size and style you're most comfortable with . E-book readers also have index and bookmark functions so you can quickly find any reference you want.

How do I buy e-books?
Browse the electronic publishers' sites on the Internet or check out the electronic Book Stores. Amazon.com and Barnes & Noble sell e-books. Publishers' sites display the book cover, a blurb and, usually, you can read a sample for no charge. Find a book you like, order it online and pay by credit card (some e-publishers accept cheques or money orders.) Any reputable e-publisher/book-seller has a secure server so you know your credit card details are safe.

Some regular book shops sell audio-books, but so far we don't know of any regular book shops that stock e-books. It will come - it's a matter of consumer preference.
